and frequently visited a brothel in Staunton Street. Faking some of the inmates the next morning to trouble informing Jam Isoi.
According to the register Faux Isoi entered brothel M. 110 on the 10th of September 1887 having arrived in the Colony a few days previously. She left on the 7th November for Canton. On the 20th February 1889 she returned and entered brothel N.59. On the 7th June she removed to brothel At 80 and thence on the 11th September to brothel A. 184 where she took opium. She was 23 at the time of her death.
Towards the end of last year and at the commencement of this year she was visited frequently by a gentleman Mr. Tso Sik-ban. Mr. Tso, a Chinese merchant, proposed to marry her as his concubine, but as he was unable to come to terms with Jam Teoi's owner, who demanded $1,300, he discontinued his visits. The negotiations were broken off in January. On the evening of the 17th of April Mr. Tso, who was at a restaurant, received a message from Jam Isoi asking him to come and see her. He declined to go, and next morning Jam Isoi committed suicide. It is generally believed that she did so from disappointment at not being permitted to marry Mr. Tso.
Mr. Tso is the elder brother of Mr. Tso Fung, the gentleman whom the woman who committed suicide in the Jak Tai brothel last year wished to marry.
Jam Isoi's owner was a woman named Jai So, who used to act occasionally as her servant and is still living.
